The cooler temperatures, combined with the August Bank Holiday weekend - which for once provided almost perfect weather conditions - delivered a positive outcome for footfall in UK retail destinations last week. Footfall rose in all three key destination types, although only modestly in retail parks, whilst in high streets and shopping centres the uplift was more significant.
Footfall rose on all but one day last week, with an increase on Friday that was seven times as great as on Thursday, and then there was a further rise over the weekend.
Footfall increased in all town types last week, other than in coastal towns where there was a marginal decline from the week before as the peak summer period ended.
Despite this marginal drop off in activity over the week, not surprisingly it was coastal and historic towns that were recorded the biggest increase in footfall over the bank holiday weekend.
